1. Limit the amount of Direct Heat.
That is the use of heating tools such as Curling Irons, Flat Irons and Blow Dryers. If they are not used right or too much they will cause serious breakage and damage to your hair. If you must use a heating tool, use heat protectors(such as Fantasia IC Hair Polisher Heat Protector straightening serum)and use the lowest heat setting possible to achieve your desired style.
2. Moisturize.
This is the key to healthy hair. Get a good water based moisturizer(water will bet the first ingredient) and apply to hair regularly.
3. Wear Protective styles.
Protective styles are any hairdo that will keep your hair from rubbing on clothes. These are buns, up-dos, french rolls, etc.
4. Cover hair at nights.
Can you imagine someone pulling, rolling over or tugging on your hair for eight hours straight. Well that is what happens when you sleep. Cover hair with a satin/silk scarf or bonnet at night to protect your hair, or sleep on a satin pillow case.
5. Deep Condition.
Deep condition hair at least once per week. This will help to replenish moisture lost from hair and help to keep your hair shiny and bouncy and strong.
6. Treat your hair like Fine Lace.
Especially wet hair. When drying with a towel never rub, gently blot or dab excess water from hair. Comb hair gently from ends to roots. And work through tangles from the bottom up.
7. Clarify.
This is to remove excess product build up from hair, which will allow moisture to penetrate the hair shaft. Whenever you notice your hair is limp, dry and breaking no matter what you do, clarify and follow up with a good deep conditioner and it will be as good as new.
8. Maintain a healthy diet and drink lots of water.
When your body lacks certain nutrients it will divert its supply to more vital organs. I am afraid the hair does not qualify as vital. So pack in as many nutrients as you can to ensure that the hair gets all the nutrients it needs from the inside. That will ensure that it grows healthy from the start. You can also take a daily vitamin supplement so you get all the ones you did not in your diet.
9. Stretch the time in between chemical processes.
Over Processed hair is damaged hair. So try not to process already processed hair. For example wait at least 8 weeks in between relaxers this will enable you to differentiate between relaxed and natural hair and will prevent overlapping.
10. Create a hair regimen.
This is basically planning your hair care. Decide what you will do to your hair on which day, week or month. Find hair products that work and stick with them.
Follow these tips and you will be on your way to healthy hair in no time.
