"NATURAL"

November 2011. 8 Months post Big Chop.

March 2011. My Big Chop.

After a long hiatus I am back.

So after my long stretch I couldn't let the thought of going natural go. So I decided to Transition.

I could not deal with the two textures so after six month of "transitioning" I CHOPPED it all off. It was very scary and exciting at the same time. I loved my long hair, but was sick of all I had to do with it for it to "look" healthy.

It took some getting use to being natural after having natural hair for so long.

The first month was the hardest. My hair had no idea how to act. I had trouble finding products that worked and getting used to being almost bald headed. But I rocked my TWA and now I love being natural.

Even though I started this blog being Relaxed I am continuing with my journey to long healthy natural hair and will be sharing my journey. Same goal just different hair type.

I will update my products and regimen soon.

Considering Transitioning to Natural!

So I recently moved to Canada and I am dealing with the changes in weather and climate and the effect it is having on my hair.

For one the air is very dry so my hair is more prone to dryness and become more easily damaged and I am experiencing a little breakage. My hair takes a longer time to air dry so I purchased a blow dryer because there is no way I am leaving the house with wet hair in -10 and under weather.

I am weighing the pros and cons of natural hair. And with knowing all I know about hair care I think it would be best to transition. There is no way I am BIG CHOPPING! But I will grow my hair out without a relaxer and gradually trim the relaxed ends.

I miss the feel of Natural hair and I want a change. So I am saying good bye to the creamy crack.

I am currently 12 weeks post and I am thinking I will have to transition for at least 18 months before I feel comfortable enough to lose the relaxed ends. I know it will be a challenge dealing with both textures but I welcome the challenge. Its time for a change.

I am reinventing my regimen and will post as soon as I figure it all out.

Relaxer Update

I relaxed a month early. So I made it to Five months post. That's a major accomplishment !
So I did gain some length and thickness. I reached my goal of Full Bra Strap Length. Now I am thinking I want MORE...:)

My new goal is Waist Length. I think I might be able to get there by the end of 2011.
Nothing has changed about my regimen. But I am doing some research on Henna because I read its a better alternative to hair dyes and it also strengthens your hair.

17 Weeks Post

Only 7 weeks to go. Heck I think I may be able to do this 6 months stretch. Even though sometimes I feel like relaxing and getting it over with. This new growth is no joke.

My hair is never slick and neat like I like it. Buns are out of the questions most days and it tangles so easily. The only way to get my hair into a decent bun is to roller set then wrap it and after all that may new growth will lay flat enough for a bun.

On the other hand my hair feels way thicker, my shedding is at a minimum which is amazing. I can comb my hair and not have more than a few strands in the comb.

I am experimenting with braid outs at the moment because they makes the two textures of my hair blend. I am also doing my small roller sets as these help to hide my new growth.

If I made it this dang far I can definitely go 7 more weeks. I cannot wait to see the end results.

15 Weeeks into my 24 Week Stretch

And I only have 9 long weeks to go. My new growth is not cooperating so I just refuse to deal with it.

So the other night I was fooling with my hair and did one small braid. Then I thought to myself what if I did my whole head of hair like this{{{big idea bulb}}}}. Six hour later I had a full head of braids.

Surprisingly my ends didn't unravel like I thought they would. I am guessing that is due to the unevenness of my hair.

I am on my second week of wearing them and I love having my hair in braid like this. I don't have to deal with my new growth, I can still style it up, I can co-wash as often as I wish. LOVING IT!

I am very careful taking these braids down. I slather them with conditioner and gently upbraid each.

24 Weeks Relaxer Stretch....

I have decided to attempt a 24 week relaxer stretch. That is going 6 whole months without relaxing my hair. My longest "stretch" was 16 weeks so this will definitely be a challenge.

I am currently 9 weeks post relaxer and I intend to relax on the first day of December. So far my new growth is soft and manageable. I think that the Roux Porosity Control has a lot to do with that.

I might get braids done in the last two months of my stretch to help me deal with the two different textures.

My regimen will basically remain the same. Except I might try more low manipulation styles and combing only on wash days. I think the less I have to deal with my hair the better my chances of making it to 24 weeks.

If I can complete this stretch then it will be a total of 3 relaxers for the year.
